Mission & Vision

To serve South Carolina’s artistically talented high school students through programs of pre- professional instruction in an environment of artistic and academic excellence. The school is an accessible resource to all teachers and students in South Carolina. School programs will foster artistic, intellectual, and social-emotional growth, and help our entire community experience the potential of the arts to inspire creativity, make connections, and define culture.

Arts Goals

  • Sustain and continue to build meaningful collaborations across departments schoolwide to improve student achievement
  • Support innovation by engaging in reflection to assess and revise practices/programs in order to prepare students to be future-forward creators, learners, and workers
  • Identify and support internal and external professional learning opportunities for employees relevant to their unique roles and responsibilities
  • Cultivate an inclusive and interconnected living and learning community reflective of many paths toward a shared Govie experience

Points of Pride

  • Residential high school for artistically talented students
  • Pre-professional training creative writing, dance, drama, film, and visual arts
  • Robust summer program for younger students to immerse themselves in their artistic passions
  • Outreach programs designed to bring together artists, educators, community organizations, out-of-school time providers, and students
