Sanders-Clyde Creative Arts School is in the third year of both the Arts in Basic Curriculum grant and Distinguished Arts Program grant in 2016-2017. SCCAS is an urban neighborhood Title I school in downtown Charleston that serves PK – 8th grade. There are 516 African-American students with 95.2% that are on free and reduced lunch. Our mission is to offer a quality comprehensive arts curriculum through creative writing, dance, music, theatre and visual art while developing productive, responsible and creative students in a positive environment with a fully integrated arts curriculum. SCCAS uses creative strategies throughout the school by having arts-integration activities in specific classrooms, artist-in-residency programs, formal arts performances, and an annual week-long arts celebration called Arts in the Lowcountry. Our expanded day arts partnerships made possible by Charleston Promise Neighborhood include: Dance Ed., Engaging Creative Minds, Redux Contemporary Art Center Young Artist’s program, Inspirational Pathways and Story Tree Theatre. Sanders-Clyde Creative Arts School is honored to be affiliated with Arts in Basic Curriculum and the South Carolina Department of Education as a Distinguished Arts Program grant recipient.
