The mission of Round Top Elementary School is to provide a wide variety of arts education opportunities. Students will learn through and with the arts how to participate, express and share arts experiences. Round Top Elementary School has a total population of 574, with 22% free/reduced lunch. The school is in the northeast side of Columbia, South Carolina, located in Richland School District Two. Richland Two schools are a mix of suburban & rural areas. RTE is a neighborhood and choice school. All arts teachers are certified and provide Dance, Music and Visual Arts, during the day and in afterschool clubs. There are varied and unique arts opportunities at RTE, which is not an Arts Magnet School, but offers integrating arts classes (integrating w/ classroom teachers). The school offers gifted and talented programs throughout Richland School District Two and the school. Before and after school arts programs include Visual Art Club, Dance Company, Ensemble Musical Groups and Chorus. In 2003-2004 Artist, Bob Doster, worked with students to create a bench and a Palmetto tree for the front foyer area. This arts project was funded by The Richland/Lexington County Cultural Council. Round Top has garnered the following arts’ awards: SCAEA’s 2013 South Carolina Arts Advocate Principal awarded to principal Jeaneen Tucker. In 2010, SCAEA named LaDonna Dixon (Round Top’s Visual Arts Teacher) as South Carolina Elementary Art Educator of the Year.
