Arts Mission
We are committed to increasing opportunities for all our students to participate in the arts. To fulfill that mission Philip Simmons Middle School strives to commission, educate, produce and present performances that reflect the highest standards of excellence and diversity.
Arts Vision
We provide pathways and creative opportunities to empower young people to find, discover and explore their interests and passions.
Arts Goals
- Philip Simmons Middle School will significantly improve student achievement in the arts through curriculum, instruction, and assessment based on the implementation of the 2017 South Carolina College – and Career – Ready Standards for Visual and Performing Arts.
- Philip Simmons Middle School will improve communication of student achievement and school goals through continued development of school/community/ business partnerships.
Points of Pride
- Student created Visual Art Murals throughout the school.
- Four one-act-play productions per year.
- Three artist in residencies per year (band, theatre, and visual arts)
- Community band concerts
- Renaissance school
- DAP Grant school since 2017
- School named after a master blacksmith
