From GoUpstate.Com:

New Prospect Elementary will receive the “Schools of Excellence In Arts Integration” Award by the South Carolina Alliance for Arts Education (SCAAE) for their outstanding job of making the arts essential to the education of their students.

To be considered for this prestigious award, NPE completed a rigorous application process, that included submitting a video of students’ work, footage of teaching and learning, and student performances. New Prospect Elementary is in its second year as an Arts in Basic Curriculum (ABC) School and is also a recipient of the Distinguished Arts Program grant funded by the South Carolina Department of Education. Through these grants, students at NPE will have expanded opportunities within the arts discipline that they would not ordinarily receive in the standard Arts curriculum.

“At New Prospect Elementary, it is an honor to receive this award as we are enjoying the benefits of being an Arts in the Basic Curriculum School and a recipient of the Distinguished Arts Program Grant. We provide our students with creative arts strategies throughout the school by having students experience formal arts performances, artist in residency programs, arts integration activities with the visual art and music teachers, and integrated activities in every classroom that includes music, visual art, theatre, and dance. We also enjoy a strong community partnership through generous parental support,” says Jodi Wright, principal.

State level awards provide an important opportunity to honor schools and the role they play in providing a creative learning environment for outstanding student achievement and growth. New Prospect Elementary School was recognized at the SCAAE awards reception at The Columbia Museum of Art on October 20, in Columbia, SC. Spartanburg District One is a Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Partner in Education.
