Logan Elementary

District: Richland 1  /  Site Since 1997

“Logan Elementary School is located in the heart of downtown Columbia on Elmwood Avenue. It is an all brick building with beautiful hard wood floors and tall windows that look out into the city. Near the main entrance of the building, there is the Leopards Arch which is inclusive of hand prints from all of the students and faculty at Logan Elementary from the 2018-2019 school year. Within its walls, Logan carries historic moments that range from developing educational programs that foster the unique learning styles of all students to developing art programs that provide unique opportunities to the students. Logan Elementary is a school within a school. It serves a population of Montessori students as well as a population of traditional students. Within both of these programs, Logan is also an Arts in Basic Curriculum site. Over the years, Logan has worked to carefully craft an environment that fosters ideal learning environments for its students as well as an environment that exposes students, teachers, and the community the arts. Logan Elementary School is able to accomplish this through its housing of fine arts teachers and connections to many community artists. Currently, Logan Elementary offers standards based fine arts classes in visual arts, dance, and music with the added benefit of being implementing each of these arts into their core classrooms. Students have the opportunity to participate in before and after-school programs such as steel band, chorus ensembles, dance ensembles, and string ensembles. As an arts enhanced environment, Logan Elementary school continues to work to inspire the creative minds, define it cultures, and make connections as their leopards continue to strive in their learning.”
