This approach fosters a whole child learning experience for the diverse population of students to include academic and artistic gifted and talented as well as special education students. Located on the Harbor River in Beaufort County, Lady’s Island Middle is surrounded by beautiful natural resources, historical landmarks, and a thriving artist community which distinctly enhance the arts integrated curriculum. Additionally, collaborative teaching, artists in residence, and professional development are key aspects to the school’s continued efforts. Lady’s Island Middle School strives to provide a challenging academic and artistically enriched environment which allows students to explore, discover, express, create and succeed. LIMS is proud to offer courses in exploring and advanced visual art, performing dance, band, instrumental music, chorus and media arts. The visual arts program hosts an annual showcase, Coastal Connections, with 3 cluster elementary schools. There is an active chapter of National Jr. Art Honor society which maintains the Harbor River Galley- a designated school gallery built with the support of the BCSD and the LIMS PTO. The NJAHS attends 2 fieldtrips each year to Savannah College of Art and Design and a museum. Performing dance and music programs offer 2 performances during the school year. Dance students also participate in the annual district arts festival. Music students complete at state and regional level events throughout the year. Media arts students produce a live daily news show that is shared every morning in every class, a radio channel, and the annual LIMS yearbook. Many of these activities involve the support of students in Young Leaders of Beaufort and Jr. Leadership programs. The Gateway to Technology and Project Lead the Way courses provide technology and engineering experiences such as game design, Legos, robotics, and architecture.
