Arts Integration

Mission & Vision

The mission of the Chester Park Elementary School of the Arts is to engage every child in active individual and collaborative team learning experiences in the context of a comprehensive standards-based arts integrated curriculum. We believe that arts education: Builds character, cooperation, responsibility, self-esteem, and respect; Enriches and integrates subject areas; Identifies and nurtures each individual student’s talents and creativity; Unites students, parents, faculty, and community members; Provides an exciting, caring, and inviting environment for learning.

Arts Goals

  • Student achievement in the arts will significantly improve through curriculum, instruction, and assessment based on the 2017 SC College- and Career-Ready Visual and Performing Arts Proficiency Standards.
  • Arts specialists and classroom teachers will improve their professional skills and knowledge to more effectively implement standards-based lessons in arts and academic classes.
  • Stakeholders will advocate for the arts and arts integration as essential components of a well balanced curriculum.

Points of Pride

  • District Arts Showcase: Students participate in district arts showcases, using performance and visual art to demonstrate learning and strengthen school–community connections.
  • Upper-Grade Arts Specialization: Students in grades 3–5 receive specialized instruction in strings, chorus, dance, and visual art, integrating academic standards with artistic development.
  • Arts Advocacy & State Support: Arts-focused advocacy has increased state-level visibility and support, including engagement with Senator Stubbs and an on-site visit recognizing the school’s programs.
  • Arts-Driven Student Achievement: Through arts integration, Chester Park Elementary School of the Arts improved its School Report Card rating from ATSS to Average, successfully exiting the ATSS list.
