Our mission at Kelly Miller Elementary School is to reveal a passion for learning, accommodate differences, teach appreciation, and stimulate creativity and imagination in, and through, a standards-based arts infused curriculum. We serve approximately 250 students in Pre-K through 6th grade with the percentage of students receiving free or reduced lunch being over 80%. We serve a rural area of southern Fairfield County and we are a neighborhood and choice school. During the school day, all students receive Visual Art and General Music, as well as 2nd Grade World Music, 3rdGrade Percussion Ensemble, 4th through 6th Grade Concert Bands, and Jazz Band. After school arts programs include marching band (including a color guard and dancers), 3 dance groups, a drama troupe, 2 choruses, piano lessons, and 2 art clubs. KMES has been an ABC school since 2014 and along with this generous grant, has also been the recipient of many Donor’s Choose funded projects. Recently, KMES was awarded the prestigious Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation grant for the expansion of our band program to now include 4th through 6th grades making our arts program unique by offering 3 consecutive years of band at the elementary level. The Tiger Tones Chorus at KMES has received a superior rating at the Carowinds Festival of Music and we have had band students receive superior ratings at the SCBDA Solo & Ensemble Festival for the past 2 years. We are an arts integrated school where teachers collaborate to maximize student learning and engagement as we inspire excellence in academics and the arts.
