lesson development & place in Long Range Plans

This lesson incorporates the understanding of lines, contrast, intaglio printmaking, and a famous South Carolina Artist-Elizabeth O’Neill Verner. This unit is at the beginning of my long range plans because emphasis is place on drawing which is the foundation for all future projects.

Unit Description

Students will receive a brief introduction and a discussion of prints created by a Charleston Artist, Elizabeth O’Neill Verner. Discussion will involve lines, contrast, production, and the purpose behind the art work she created. Students will produce an intaglio print using the buildings and places in their own town.

  • How did Elizabeth O’Neill Verner improve the lives of the people who lived in Charleston?
  • What is the process of creating an Intaglio Print?
  • How can various lines and contrast in a print catch and hold the attention of the viewer?
